High TBN=Long Oil Life, Improved Rust Protection

email the content item print the content item create pdf file of the content item
The TBN (total base number) of an oil measures the alkaline reserve available in a crankcase lubricant in order to neutralize acidic by-products of combustion. The higher the TBN of an oil, the longer it will be able to neutralize acidic combustion by-products. If the TBN of an oil were to reach 0, corrosion of metal engine components would accelerate very quickly.

AMSOIL Synthetic Oils have the highest TBN levels in the industry. For diesel engines this is extremely important and absolutely necessary for an extended oil drain program. Gasoline oils tend to have much lower TBN numbers , but TBN is still important even for these applications.

Every AMSOIL Synthetic Oil (even for non-diesel applications) has a TBN of over 11. You'll find that even other high quality synthetics are only around 7 or 8 TBN. AMSOIL Diesel Oils are all 12 TBN formulations.
